RT-PCR SARS-COV-2 GENETIC TESTING
A number of tests are currently available on the market to test patients for the virus responsible for COVID-19.
Those who choose to be tested by OPEN perform molecular tests recommended by the WHO.
We make every effort to provide test results to our clients within 24 hours of sample collection.
Molecular tests that we perform are based on the detection of coronavirus genetic material in the sample obtained from the patient using the real time PCR method i.e. polymerase chain reaction with reverse transcriptase.
RT-PCR tests are performed as soon as possible after the appearance of symptoms of upper respiratory infection (indicative of COVID-19) or after contact with an infected person as these tests detect ongoing infection with the virus.
OPEN detects three different genetic markers including the E,N and RdRP genes.
Molecular diagnostics has almost 100% sensitivity and specificity.
Results
Commercial test results are sent to you at the e-mail address provided at sample collection.
The test may indicate the following result:
- negative – negative test result (no SARS-CoV-2 detected) – means you do not have the Coron virus
- positive – test positive (SARS-CoV-2 detected) – quarantine indicated
- non-diagnostic – the sample collected is not suitable for testing. Go for another sample and submit it for testing as soon as possible.
- inconclusive – the result is at the limit of the analytical sensitivity of the test. Requires testing of another sample taken 24-48 hours later.
If the result is non-diagnostic or inconclusive the test should be repeated
